About us
The IDEA League, founded in 1999, is a network of four leading universities of technology and science. Our joint activities in education, research and quality assurance, as well as our joint participation in EU programmes and initiatives make us a model of European cooperation. Together, we create added value by pooling resources for collaborative and complementary programmes for our students, researchers and staff.
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded Vidi grants to eight TU Delft scientists. The NWO grant offers them the possibility of developing their own line of research and building their own research group. The scientists belong to the top ten to twenty per cent of their field. A Vidi grant enables them to do research for a period of five years. Each scientist receives a grant for a maximum of 800,000 euros.

Five grammes per 100 kilometres. This is how little fuel the extremely energy-efficient hydrogen Ecorunner3 vehicle consumes. A team of students from TU Delft will be entering the vehicle in the Shell Eco-marathon in Rotterdam, from Wednesday 15 to Sunday 19 May. More than 200 teams from all over Europe will be competing in this fuel-efficiency competition at the Ahoy event centre. The team that uses the least energy per kilometre will be the winner. After four years of research and testing, the small wind turbine designed by TU Delft spin-off Windchallenge is ready for its market launch. The Windchallenge 1.7 can now be ordered and delivered. Interested parties can see the turbine in action from 15 May onwards. An example of this lightweight, quiet and affordable turbine will be present on the roof of incubator company Yes!Delft in Delft.
Buildings can be air-conditioned using entirely natural means, without mechanical ventilation systems. This is the claim made by 78-year-old Benjamin Bronsema, who will be awarded his PhD for his thesis on the subject at TU Delft on Thursday 7 June. He wants to create an energy-positive office environment using sun, wind and cascading water. Bronsema is now looking for a building in which to carry out a large-scale trial of his Earth, Wind & Fire concept.
