Hansruedi Maurer received his Diploma degree (M.Sc.) in Geophysics in 1989, his Ph.D. in Geophysics in 1993 and his Habilitation doctoral degree in Geophysics in 2002, all from ETH Zurich. Subsequently, he joined the ETH Applied and Environmental Geophysics group as a Research Associate.
In 1996, he was promoted to Senior Research Associate. Between 1996 and 2005, he spent a total of 10 months as a guest scientist at the Geological Survey of Canada and the University of British Columbia. His primary research interests concern inversions of diverse geophysical data.
During the past decade, he initiated several earthquake research projects and directed various ventures that required the development of crosshole tomography, 2D and 3D refraction tomography, self-potential tomography, joint inversions of DC resistivity and time-domain EM data and 3D inversions of high-resolution magnetic data.
He is currently Associate Editor of Geophysics and serves on several national and international committees. He has co-authored ~40 publications in international journals and a similar number of contributions in refereed conference proceedings volumes. In 1998 he received the "Best Poster Award" from the Society of Exploration Geophysics and in 2004 he was the co-recipient of the "Best Paper in Geophysics Award (2004)". Recent publications include:
