Mentoring for women in science and engineering
There is a clear disparity between male and female representation in natural sciences and engineering. Effective mentoring and personal development can redress the balance, says Dr Carmen Leicht-Scholten, coordinator of the FP6 project TANDEMplusIDEA.

Am 29. und 30. Oktober 2009 fand im Eurogress Aachen die internationale Tagung „Going Diverse: Innovative Answers to Future Challenges – International Conference on Gender and Diversity in Science, Technology and Business“ statt. Sie wurde veranstaltet von der Stabsstelle Integration Team – Human Resources, Gender and Diversity Management der RWTH Aachen in Kooperation mit den technischen Hochschulen Imperial College London, ETH Zürich und TU Delft.

Idea League steunt vrouwelijke academici
De TU Delft nam deel aan het TandemplusIdea van de Idea League, het eerste international project om veelbelovende vrouwelijke academici te ondersteunen bij hun carrière. Vorige week was het slotcongres. TUdeelneemster dr.ir. Niki Kringos: “Ik zie nu beter waar mogelijk belemmeringen voor vrouwen zijn in de wetenschap.”

Tien jaar Ideale synergie
In Aken vond op 29 en 30 oktober het congres ‘Going Diverse’ plaats, een initiatief van de Idea League met als onderwerp de diversiteit van de universiteitsorganisatie. Aanwezig was ook Ulla Bidian, secretaris van de Idea League. Met haar spreken wij over tien jaar Idea League.

Conference on gender and diversity in science, technology and business
On 29 and 30 October 2009, the technical universities of the IDEA League are hosting the conference ‘Going diverse: innovative answers to future challenges - international conference on gender and diversity in science, technology and business’. It is the final event of the FP6-funded project TandemPlusIDEA, which is conducted by the project partners Imperial College London, TU Delft, ETH Zürich and RWTH Aachen.

Summer School for women in science on authentic leadership
The Summer School at TU Delft was the second training seminar of the international mentoring programme TANDEMplusIDEA. During the three-day seminar the mentees worked on the issues leadership skills and conflict management.

IDEA League Equality Group receives € 500,000 EU-grant
We are proud to announce that the TANDEMplus IDEA programme has received €500,000 in EU funding! TANDEMplusIDEA is a mentoring and personal development scheme for female academics in natural sciences and engineering who are in their second or third year as post-docs.

A new scheme which will allow up to four Imperial female researchers to benefit from mentoring and mobility has received an injection of funding from the EU.

European network of TU's receives € 500,000 for female scientists
The IDEA League – the network of five leading European universities of technology - has received € 500,000 from the European Commission for a programme that aims to encourage women to pursue careers in science. The programme, called TANDEMplus, offers trainings, networking meetings and a mentor to female scientists who obtained their doctorate within the past few years.
